Must See in Thailand – Chicken Island region

I am trying to inspire you to build your dream trip to Thailand and in my series of posts, I am unfolding some of the most beautiful destinations in Thailand. Those that I have explored over many trips to this friendly and fun-loving land.  I last posted about Loh Larn

Today, I am taking you on the day-long boat tour to the Chicken Island and beyond.

# Chicken Island & Nature boat tour

You can get to the Chicken Island on a long tail boat or speedboat from both Krabi and Phuket. Be prepared to be greeted to a visual paradise on this daylong trip in the sea. Towering limestone cliffs, soft white sand beaches, small coves and tiny islands are all waiting to be explored.

Your tour will first make a pit-stop at the Chicken island. Here you can choose to pay the National Park fee (100 Bath) to explore the island or shoot some beautiful pictures while still on the boat, with the chicken leg shaped gigantic rock in the backdrop.

On this trip, you will have 2 snorkeling stopovers, one at the beginning of the trip and another one right before jetting back to the shore. Wear a life jacket, snorkeling mask, both available on the boat and take a dive into the sea for an experience of a lifetime. It is safe, even if you donot know to swim, as you can hold on to the lifebuoy tube. And there always is a lookout person to make sure no one strays. Both spots are great for snorkeling as water is crystal aqua blue, so warm and inviting. Visibility is very clear with so many corals and fishes. We saw parrotfish, Indo-pacific sergeants, boxfish, and even a pufferfish.

This trip includes local group buffet lunch at one of the many islands. Once you have had your fill, find a nice quiet spots and spend some time at the beach. Shoot some of the most exotic pictures and head back to the boat.

You will next be taken to a hidden lagoon where the water is a perfect shade of cobalt green. The entry to the lagoon is hidden and its great fun finding your way in though the small coves and getting drenched unedr the waterfalls.

AND don’t if you are looking for

  • A relaxed day at just one beach, head to Koh Larn then
  • Beach hopping as the tour stops at just one beach
  • Don’t like the feeling of getting wet under the waterfall
  • Scared of aquatic animals. This tour will seem like a drag then.

You may rather take the 4 island tour, which is coming up in my next post.

How to get there: Take a bus or taxi to Ao Nang jetty. Here you can buy a long-tail boat ticket at the booth located along the beach road (toward its southern end). You also could join a half- or full-day island-hopping trip by speedboat.
